Aug 2012 - Summer Volleyball

It's been a great summer of volleyball for MK City players. We played in the local outdoor league as usual which this year included some 4-a-side mini tournaments aswell as the usual 6-a-side league format. We took a large party of players and family down to the Bath tournament at which we managed to win the mixed plate trophy. We also had a team playing at the Cambridge tournament. A short break before we started indoor training. There were a couple of new faces around in the summer and it's good to see them continuing indoors.

MK City Ladies got their year off to a great start despite the odds being stacked against them. A Sunday afternoon road trip in early to Falcons, and down a player is as a real tough one. But the team came away with a victory to make it a double after defeating the same team before Christmas. Well done all!!

So there we were sleeping in the middle of a Premier League rugby pitch... Yes, it's the Whitefield tournament held at The Rec in Bath. Talking of wrecks. You should have seen Grenville after a full days play on Saturday. Grenville, now there's a blast from the past. Well get this, Val even turned up. Val was apparently a tournament virgin. And Val hasn't been called a virgin in a long time. Who else. Pete the Chairman was of course then. Me, Layne. Another blast from the past, Neil, and Gabriel "Booey" Barr was back on the circuit, keeping the average of the team just below geriatric status. Bine was in attendance with the Walker offspring but on seeing the bouncy castle and waterslide in the swimming pool decided she would leave us to it. The team of 6 did have a slight drawback. No setters. Bugger. Layne and Neil got the job, almost by a process of elimination. What with Val having not played for 2 years things weren't quite as smooth as one would hope in the first match. But we held our own and made the oppo work hard for their win. We improved in the second match but the oppo were stronger so we still went down. we then played what looked the weakest team on display. And though it wasn't straight forward we triumphed. Unfortunately we had the strongest team to finish. In a reoccuring theme we had them reeling on a couple of occasions but then gave some cheap points away. A great days volleyball was followed by a great Chinese buffet and a couple of ales/wines to lubricate the old muscles. The splendid weather of Saturday desserted us on Sunday but thankfully the rain largely held off until most of the games were done. We had 3 games on the cards. Although we had a bit more cohesion as a team, we weren't quite as energized as Saturday. Still, we gave the grass skirts a bit of a fright. And gave Silent Monkey a good old pasting in the final set of the day. Local pride being at stake we had to put it all in! Whitefield is truly a unique tournament and long may it continue. Come on you Tossers!

Oct 2007 - Women's Match away at Northampton Postponed

May 2007 - Men are DOUBLE champions !!

MK City Men's volleyball team have won both the Northants & Herts Volleyball League's. The Herts league has been won for the first time breaking four years of dominance by VK Barnet while the Northants title has been retained. The double success has brought a bit of publicity for the club - click here

May 2006 - Northants Mens squad take title !!

MK City Men's volleyball team have won the Northants Volleyball League for this first time in their history but had a real scare in taking on Kingsthorpe at Stantonbury Leisure Centre. MK City had several late injury problems going into the match. Billington, one of the teams usual setters, was ruled out. Whilst Kotulecki and Malone were struggling with injuries and started on the bench.

However, a 3-2 vistory was enough to hold off Rushden and take the title by the smallest of margins.

As announced previously it was also a suitable finale in the Club's last ever game under the MK City name. Once the celebrations are over the club will be relaunching itself under a new title. And with this success, the future looks bright for the new Club.

Aug 2005 - Gloucester Mixed Div II Winners !!
